Why hubby Shane’s the one Amy adores

- JILL POULSEN

IF IT wasn’t for her husband we might never have heard Amy Shark’s music.

Shark had all but given up on her dreams of becoming a recording artist but husband Shane Billings refused to stop pushing her.

“He’s so crucial (to my success) Shane was there from when I was playing all these pubs and clubs and he kept sending my demos to people even when I said I’d had enough of being rejected,” she said.

“I’ll never be able to repay him for the life he’s given me, he kept me going and now we are where we are.”

Where they are is recovering after a stellar night at the Arias this week that saw her win Best Female, Best Pop, and the highly coveted Apple Music Album of The Year for her debut album, Love Monster.

As she Accepted the award for Best Female Artist Shark gave a shout out to her husband, who tries to stay out of the spotlight.

“To my husband, Shane Billings, you’re my best friend and thank you for reminding me every day that girls can do anything,” she said.

The pair met 11 years ago and today Shane balances his role working with the Gold Coast Titans and being involved in Shark’s career.

“He kind takes care of my day to day stuff – he speaks to my management more than I do – he knows my schedule better than I do and he’ll never admit this but he’s like my assistant,” she said.

“He’s still working with the Titans he loves football and numbers, he’s a bit of a nerd so he still does that and balances it with all my stuff, to be honest he’s busier than I am.”

Shark was tight lipped on whether her breakthrough single Adore was written about her love.

“I don’t tell anyone who my songs are about but obviously there’s a big part of him in it but even Shane I don’t talk about who my songs are about … it’s such a big youthful song and he takes a little part in it,” she said.

The couple plans on living a bit of “gypsy life” over the coming year spending plenty of time in the US and Sydney but say the Gold Coast will always be their home base – especially after buying a home there earlier this year.
