Order and out after Dan’s exit

- – TOM BOSWELL

DAN Nisbet’s hopes of winning the order of merit and playing in Europe next year have been shattered but his coach says his game is good enough to dominate in Asia over the coming three years.

The KDV Sport golfer carded a one-over par second round to finish at plus four after two days and miss the cut.

It ruled out any chance Nisbet had of winning the PGA Tour of Australasia order of merit after entering the tournament second behind Jake McLeod, who is placed equal second at eight-under.

“Dan was brilliant from tee to green but he just didn’t hole enough putts and struggled to convert some great opportunities,” KDV coach Richard Woodhouse said.

“It’s just the way the last couple of weeks have been. Nothing really dropped this week and his green reading was probably a bit of an issue with the grain.”

Nisbet remains well placed going into 2019 despite the setback, having won the New Zealand Open and Northern Territory PGA Championship.

The 28-year-old’s success across the Tasman has given him a three-year exemption on the Asian Tour where Woodhouse predicted him to thrive.

“Of course you would have loved a good outcome but at the end of the day it’s still been a very good season for him,” Woodhouse said.

“Getting his Asian Tour card for the next three years with a win in New Zealand and a good win up in the Northern Territory (is great).”
