Miah a girl of many talents

- SEANNA CRONIN

AS her fellow students get stuck into a new school year, Miah Madden will continue her job as prankster on Nickelodeon’s Crash the Bash.

The 16-year-old is juggling her commitments for the Logie-nominated kids entertainment series, as well as filming for the ABC drama series The Unlisted, with her final year of high school.

“I won’t be able to attend school for the first month … but I am actually ahead in terms of content,” she says. “My biggest tip for juggling school and multiple commitments is time management.”

Madden co-hosts Crash the Bash, now in its third season, with former cricketer and Australian Survivor finalist Lee Carseldine.

“When joining the Crash the Bash team, I knew basically nothing about cricket. However, working with Lee and being on set has taught me so much about the game,” she says.

“There is never a boring moment … we get to pull pranks, participate in super fun challenges and crack the best jokes. My highlight while filming has to be my first ever Nickelodeon sliming. I felt honoured being slimed as I’ve grown up watching celebrities and hosts being saturated by the iconic Nickelodeon slime.”

The Sydney-based teen – the younger sister of actor Madeleine Madden and granddaughter of indigenous rights activist Charles Perkins – is no stranger to the screen, appearing in a string of television shows including Redfern Now and The Moodys as well as the Australian films The Sapphires (2012) and Australia Day (2017).

“Hosting and acting are two entirely different playing fields and I’ve loved exploring both,” she says.

“Hosting allows me to showcase my own personality on screen and allow an audience to truly get to know me, while acting requires me to study a character and display their personality on screen rather than my own.”

She can’t say much about her first lead drama role in The Unlisted, which reportedly follows 12-year-old twins as they work with a group of underground vigilante kids to stop powerful governments from imposing global control over the world’s youth.

“Without giving anything away, I can say that I’ve had so much fun, I’ve learnt so much and we’ve been filming at some pretty awesome locations – the hidden places of Sydney,” Madden says.

Crash the Bash airs Saturdays and Sundays, 8am-11am AEST through February 17 on Foxtel’s Nickelodeon.
