Tomic senior in fishy venture

-

FIREBRAND tennis dad John Tomic has denied being the new owner of a popular local seafood shop – despite him working behind the counter and the store’s business name and website being registered to him.

Mr Tomic, father of former tennis prodigy Bernard, owns Reef Seafood & Sushi, in the Brickworks centre on Ferry Rd, through his company JT Security Investments.

However, contacted to talk about his plans for the business and its staff, Mr Tomic said it was “not true” that he was the new owner.

“Who told you that?” he said before hanging up.

The store’s website is registered to Mr Tomic, whose official name is Ivica, through JT Security Investments, of which company records show he is the sole director and shareholder.

The business name “Reef Seafood & Sushi” is also registered to JT Security Investments.

The store’s landline was not picking up this week, although it was busily trading yesterday at lunch, with Mr Tomic behind the counter speaking to staff.

Reef Seafood is well known for its delectable sushi, prepared by Japanese chef Shigeki Uno, as well as its range of fresh and cooked seafood.

According to the website, it employs more than 18 staff.

Mr Tomic senior and his son are set to appear on 60 Minutes on Sunday night, when Channel 9 says the player plans to “open up on his bad behaviour on and off court”.
