LOVE OF MEDICINE SPURS ON KELLY

-

AFTER 13 years of working in the banking industry, Kelly Coonan is ready to chase his dream.

“I wanted to be a part of the health industry since school, however, following the guidance of teachers, parents and peers I took a scholarship and completed a Business (Accounting) degree instead,” he said.

Ten years on, his desire to delve into health got the better of him.

“I have worked for four years in frontline banking and nine years in people management and thought ultrasound was a great way to use my skills with interacting with people to assist diagnosis,” he said.

“So I’ve decided to follow my passion.”

Mr Coonan, 31, is now enrolled in CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Medical Sonography and Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography in Brisbane.

Having just completed his third year of the bachelor, he will start his fourth year graduate diploma in term one kicking off next month.

“I’ve been interested in medical field since I was a teenager,” Mr Coonan said.

Many of the university’s health courses are even available via the university’s renowned online mode.

Mr Coonan said that although this degree was ‘by far more challenging’ than his previous one, he was pleased he made the decision to change careers.

“While I’ve enjoyed working in banking and am thankful for all of the experiences I have gained over the years, I can’t wait to get started in a career that I truly have a passion for,” he said.
