Almost a Dunn deal in title race

-

MADDY Dunn failed to finish last year’s ironwoman race in Round 5 of the Nutri-Grain series at Surfers Paradise but the venue could put her in the box seat to win a first title today.

Dunn is second in the series behind Georgia Miller but could leapfrog her Northcliffe clubmate who will be away celebrating her sister’s wedding in the NSW Southern Highlands.

Despite Miller’s absence, Dunn knows she needs two strong results in the final two rounds after finishing 12th at Currumbin three weeks ago in what she hopes will be her throwaway score.

“Coming in to the season I didn’t think I’d be where I am right now,” Dunn said.

“It’s good to be in this position and hopefully I can take out the title. It’s been a goal of mine for a while now and to tick it off would be amazing.

“My last round at Currumbin wasn’t the best finish but hopefully I can drop that and get in a better position.

“There is a bit of pressure that I feel every now and then but I have to try to put that aside and do what I need to do.”

Meanwhile, Courtney Hancock will be trying to win backto-back at Surfers Paradise following her success at a beach that also delivered the first race win of her NutriGrain series career.

“To go back-to-back here would be incredible,” she said.
