FIRE CUE ON THE MOVE

He’s the award-winning chef who has added to the city hospitality scene with his own Fire Cue venue – but now he has bigger fish to fry

RESPECTED Nobby Beach restaurateur Adam Dundas-Taylor is relocating his venue – but relax, you have a week left of Fire Cue to enjoy in its original spot.

A chef to the stars who has catered for Leonard DiCaprio and Beyonce and cooked for Elton John’s wedding reveals to ATG the building where his venue has been for two years was snapped up in a quick sale.

Dundas-Taylor says it all happened “really quick”.

But it was also timely as DundasTaylor has his eyes on a Surfers Paradise and Burleigh bolthole for a bigger and better restaurant.

It may even retain the same name. But his more immediate focus is taking a holiday and having some thinking time in regards to his next move.

“I need a break. I haven’t had a holiday in two years. We weren’t wanting to go but the offer was just too good,” Dundas-Taylor says.

“We are looking for another location, something with more foot traffic, more density. We had a great run where we were and met a lot of people and now have a really good network.

“Now I want a bigger restaurant and want to create a bigger menu,” he says.

Dundas-Taylor, who has two young kids with his German model partner, says they have no plans to move away from the Gold Coast despite Fire Cue closing for a time until a new spot is found.

“We love it and my kids love it. I really want to stay here.

“It is kind of sad because at work we had just started getting into the flow of it. But there are so many opportunities so we are very happy,” he says.

Dundas-Taylor, who trained under Jamie Oliver in London, was a consultant on new venue White Rhino’s menu.

Fire Cue’s final night at the Nobby Beach site will be February 15 and Dundas-Taylor invited those who had eaten there to turn up.
