Knights won’t rule out further recruitment

- BRENT O’NEILL @Brent_ONeill

THE Gold Coast Knights’ NPL squad remains a work in progress, with president Adrian Puljich revealing the state league rookies could yet return to the player market to boost their stocks.

Despite bolstering a playing group that romped to last year’s Gold Coast Premier League double, the Knights were far from their best in last weekend’s NPL debut as they were held 1-1 at home to Mackay and Whitsundays.

As they prepare for one of the competition’s toughest roadtrips, against Western Pride in Ipswich at 7pm tonight, Puljich said there might still be time to further strengthen the squad.

“The Gold Coast Knights for quite some years now has had that ambition and drive to ensure we’re at the top of whatever league we’re playing in, and that’s now no different in the state league,” Puljich said in the latest edition of the Bulletin’s

Round Ball Round Up podcast. “We’ve obviously recruited well in the off-season and still have some players lurking in the wings that we’re considering depending on injuries and what have you.

“Finalisation of the squad will occur in the coming weeks but generally speaking the facilities that we’ve put down there at the Knights, and what we’re doing in general, is to breed a winning culture.

“The league is a lot harder than Gold Coast Premier League and if you look at our squad this year to what we had last year, we have had to strengthen.”
