More than just beer for locals

Cartel makes a dangerous return to Coast streets

BREWING with a community interest. That’s the message Miami’s Lost Palms Brewing Co wants to bring to the Gold Coast.

And when it comes to living up to that message, the boys from the brewery are rolling out the barrel – literally.

The team behind the fastgrowing brewery has revealed it is not content to stop at just providing drinks, with plans for charity projects now in the works.

Operations manager Olivier Ragoo says “giving back” has always been a goal for Lost Palms.

“We’re not just going to be selling beer, we want to do beach clean-ups and social ini- THE Mexican Hoon Cartel have posted to social media videos of their dangerous stunts, this time right outside a Gold Coast Police Beat.

A video uploaded yesterday shows two utes lining up outside the Elanora Neighbourhood Police Beat.

The cars can be heard revving and squealing before smoke surrounds the cars.

A third ute can be seen dangerously speeding across the nature strip and driveway just before the other two utes leave skid marks on the road.

The post reads: “Happy Valentine’s day to Queensland Policia from your favourite cartel.”

In another video posted three days ago, a silver ute tiatives,” he said. “It’s about giving back to the community that we want to be a part of so much.

“There’s a hyper-localised way to the Gold Coast, where people tend to eat and drink and buy where they grew up, and that’s driving a lot of the change in our communities.”

The business had its start among a group of friends who met at university, brewing drinks for themselves out of a Brisbane home.

Since the Miami brewery opened in late 2017 it has been a hit among locals and tourists, and has now taken on several new team members and hired its first head brewer.

“We’re not just trying to grow our business and get more customers in, we think spins and does burnouts at an intersection believed to be in Varsity Lakes, disregarding changing traffic lights.

Last year the group was dismantled following a series of reports by the Bulletin which also culminated in charges for members. it’s about more than that,” Mr Ragoo said.

“We’ve looked at our brewery and realised we’re in a pretty industrial area, we’ve got a good destination … and we’re trying to represent the Gold Coast.

“People understand we’re a very small operation. We do hand canning of all our stock.

“We literally roll the kegs around to Nobby Beach.”

It’s been a long time coming for the group, with owner Jarrod Blanning having a background in brewing and taking up the project as a long-time dream.

According to Mr Ragoo, the curiosity from visitors is something they had not anticipated.

“People want to know how it’s made, what we’re doing

Members of the group had terrorised Coast suburbs for months, allegedly targeting residents’ addresses with graffiti.

The group was forced to pull down their original Instagram page and created a new one to publish their exploits in September. next,” he said. “One of our drinks is a beetroot sour, so that’s the thing that catches people’s attention because it’s pink. They ask how that’s possible, or they’ve never had a sour before.

“And we explain, we talk about what goes into the beers, how they’re all made. People definitely want to know, I think they’re curious.

“We just want to give them the information in a very easy, comfortable way.”

A police source told the Bulletin at the time that they were working on bringing the group down again. Those following the page expressed appreciation for the anti-social behaviour, with one user writing: “You guys are weapons !!!! Love ya (sic) work keep it up.”
