Sky’s limit for Coast’s Oceanside

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

A GOLD Coast plumbing and electrical business has big dreams in the pipeline, with hopes to expand nationally in the next three years.

Oceanside Plumbing was launched in 1998 by Brett Withington, who started his career off working for builders on new houses and apartment projects.

After 12 years working for others, Mr Withington had decided it was time to ratchet up his operations and go it alone.

“I liked the idea of running my own business,” he said.

“I was just ambitious and had drive to run my own business and have a successful larger business, not just a small business.”

The business merged with Oceanside Electrical to form Oceanside Services in 2017, operating as a plumbing and electrical service adding to its services to include gas fitting, roofing and air conditioning.

From the early days the company has now expanded to have a fleet of 28 service vehicles and employ 35 staff on the Gold Coast.

Oceanside Services, which covers commercial, rental and private properties throughout the Gold and Tweed coasts, this year expanded its plumb-

ing services north to the Queensland capital, Brisbane.

Mr Withington said that would not be the end of the business’s growth.

“Our plans for the future are to be a statewide business that operates from the Gold Coast,” he said.

“As well, one day we expect, in the near future, to be a national business.”

However, it hasn’t always been easy and Mr Withington said the business has had to keep up with the times to be successful.

“Being able to pivot the business quickly has been a challenge because the Gold Coast has changed so much during the years,” he said.

“We strive to stay at the forefront of technology and provide attention to detail for the customer.”

Oceanside Services also has a focus on emergency events and prides itself on being able to respond quickly.

“We can get a plumber or electrician to a job within the hour – that’s our point of difference,” he said.

“We’ve got the infrastructure and resources to be able to offer that level of emergency service and response to the market.”

Mr Withington said he wanted to support the Gold Coast and Queensland community in emergency situations and sent up two crews of four staff to help people affected by the Townsville floods.

He said there was an increasing need for emergency capabilities as severe weather events became more and more frequent.

“We believe that with the recent changes we find that there are more weather events which we need to adapt and be very responsive to our emergency situations,” Mr Withington said.

Mr Withington said it was also important for him to support his own staff, which in turn helped make his a successful business.

“Our main aim is to support a great network of technicians and tradesman and have fun at work, be engaged and offer a great customer experience,” he said.
