THE HIGHLIGHTS AND HEARTBREAK

-

Q

You’ve been involved in some incredible tournaments like Junior World Cups, Champions Trophy, Oceania Cup, and achieved success around the world. Do you have one event that stands out as a highlight?

A

I’d say the Junior World Cup. It was a junior tournament but we got a medal at that tournament. I got to play with 18 of my closest friends and I think we expected not to go. We just had an amazing time in Chile in 2015. All the people who didn’t go to Rio, the young ones, got to go and we just played hockey and had a lot of fun. There was a bit of pressure but we still came out with a medal. I think it was the best Australia has ever done in a junior tournament.

Q

You struggled with injury in 2017 and regained fitness in early 2018 only to miss out on Gold Coast Commonwealth Games selection. How hard was it missing out on the chance to represent your country on essentially your home turf?

A

It was quite heartbreaking at the time but I think I had to get over and get on with it quickly. I haven’t had an actual injury since that time but I think I definitely had to get over it quickly because Savannah was playing and I had to be there for her, my family and the team. I didn’t want to be a bitter non-playing athlete so I put my teammate and sister hat on and supported them.

Q

I know it’s only early in your international career but what else do you want to achieve in the hockey world?

A

I definitely would like to go to the Tokyo Olympics and I think it’ll be a bonus if my sister and I can get there together. I think we have to take the opportunity this year and play well in the tournaments and games considering there are only 30 left until Tokyo. I think this year is very important but I’d love to go to the Olympics and be a part of a team that has a chance of getting a medal.
