Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin

That’s rare, by George

A GOLD Coast baseballer has entered the history books for hitting a cycle.

In baseball, hitting for the cycle is the accomplishment of one batter hitting a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game.

Twin City batter George Raymant (pictured) achieved the rare feat in style last weekend, hitting a grand slam home run to cap off an outstanding day for the 34-year-old.

At the bottom of the third innings with bases loaded, Raymant unleashed a monster hit to bring his teammates home.

“It was a bit of a surprise and a shock,” he said.

Raymant begun his day out with a triple hit in the first innings, the grand slam in the third, followed by a single in the fourth innings and double in the fifth to complete his cycle.

The batter joins an exclusive club of 324 people who have achieved the feat since Major League Baseball records began in 1882.

“It’s probably the best thing I’ve done so far,” Raymant said. “But I have a few good years left yet so we’ll see if I can top it.”

The Twins sit first on the Gold Coast ladder with four rounds to go until finals.

“I’m surrounded by a talented bunch of players,” Raymant said.

“We made the grand final and won it last year so hopefully we can do it again.”

Twin City will take on the Runaway Bay Dolphins tomorrow at Runaway Bay. rugby exile. The Brumbies started the stronger in Canberra last night but once the Rebels settled they were the more assured side.

After an attacking first-half which finished with the Brumbies leading 22-19, the Rebels clamped down on defence.

Brumbies star David Pocock lasted just five minutes after failing a concussion test.
