One such voter was Laura Chapman, 89, who said the hospital’s location impacted her choice.
“It looks like it’ll go out there (Cudgen), but I don’t like it going on farmland, really,” she said.
“I’m frightened once that happens whether it will continue with more buildings. We don’t want that.”

Ms Chapman would not reveal exactly who she voted for.
Tweed Heads West’s Dianne Smith, 69, said there had been “just too much of everyone bloody bitching about everyone else” during campaigning.
“I’m over it. (Politicians) just don’t get things done. I just feel everyone is very selfserving,” she said.
“I’ve voted for many years and I’m just fed up with it, absolutely.
“I used to have to wait until I was 21 to vote back in the old days and I couldn’t wait, but boy is it getting harder.”
Nevertheless, she will vote Labor, citing an avoidance of “fat cats”.
Some voters heading into pre-poll cited the new hospital as a key concern, but just as many seemed thoroughly disillusioned with politics.
