Luke’s back at right Tyne and right place
AFTER two seasons playing in the England Hockey Premier Division, the Tigerstix will welcome back a favourite son when Luke Tyne returns to the Brisbane Hockey League for Labrador’s clash with Bulimba today.
After completing his electrical apprenticeship in 2017, Tyne made the decision to chase experience overseas and has spent the past two years playing for East Grinstead Hockey Club in the Premier Division.
While there, the 25-yearold had the opportunity to learn off international talent with three of his teammates representing England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and one playing for Canada.
Now after helping his club reach the semi-finals in April before being knocked out by minor premiers Surbiton, Tyne will make his longawaited Tigerstix return.
“I really enjoyed my time at East Grinstead,” he said.
“I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play at such a respected club.
“Now I am excited to be coming back home to the Gold Coast and Labrador, especially with the exciting new playing group this season.”
Despite Labrador only dropping one game so far this Brisbane Hockey League season, Tyne’s return is timely with the Tigerstix set to lose their two star strikers for today’s clash.
Kookaburra Dylan Wotherspoon is battling a hamstring injury and captain Joe Reardon will be unavailable (honeymoon) but Labrador will also regain the services of Adam Imer from international duties.
Today’s match kicks off at 2.55pm at the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane. In the Gold Coast Division 1 competition, ladder leaders Kingscliff will take on Capri this afternoon followed by Mudgeeraba against Casuarina, with Labrador facing Roosters tomorrow.
In the women’s Division 1, Labrador and Burleigh renew hostilities when the sides meet in a grand final rematch while Mudgeeraba take on the first-placed Roosters.
