Sailing in from near, far
FIVE-YEAR-OLD Lucas Cassidy has come a long way to check out the sights at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
The enthusiastic angler (pictured) came all the way from New Zealand with his family just to attend the worldfamous event, and being able to get behind the wheel of a pint-sized runabout added to the attraction.
“We love the event, it’s so great. We’re having a great time,” mum Holly said.
Lucas’s favourite find of the day was the StarterCraft – a boat specifically designed for kids aged four to 12 to operate on their own.
The Gold Coast brand, which was only launched last year, specialises in electricpowered boats that can reach up to 8km/h.
The Cassidys are among many who have travelled to the Gold Coast for the boat show.
Thousands have already flooded through the gates over the first two days, with more than 45,000 expected across the entire four-day event, which wraps up tomorrow night.
Everything from the humble tinnie to luxurious superyachts are on show, with boat show general manager Johan Hasser singing the praises of exhibitors.
“I think it’s phenomenal how the industry has come together this year and they’re really putting on something very special here this weekend,” Mr Hasser said.
“If you’re into boating or you want to get into boating, this is the place to be.
“It’s exceptional to have a boat show with more than 20 world premieres.”
A number of brands have used the first Australian boat show of the year as a preview for their newest releases.
The marine industry has been abuzz with highly anticipated launches by industry giants Maritimo, Riviera, Princess and Horizon.
But for those who are looking for something in addition to the on-water action, the weekend will also be packed with fast cars and big engines.
From Porsche to McLaren, some of the world’s finest vehicles are on display.
Renowned British car manufacturer Bentley will be showing off its all-new Continental GT Convertible as it celebrates the brand’s 100th birthday.
Matt Hollywood’s Illusion Show and Paul Burt’s fishing stage shows are also set to draw crowds, being touted as fun for the whole family.
