‘Best yet to come’

Confident Rollers flying high and vowing to only get better

GOLD Coast coach Mick Conlon has sent an ominous warning to opposition QBL outfits, stating the Rollers’ best is still yet to come despite his side already boasting a 6-1 win ledger.

Eight rounds into the 2019 season and the Rollers have the chance tonight to build on their best starting record in club history when they take on the South West Metro Pirates in Brisbane.

“Winning hides sins so

we’ve still got a lot to work on across the board,” Conlon said. “We’re just starting now to show our true potential but I don’t think you’ll see our best until our 10th or 11th game as guys start to get fitter and gel as a team.”

After making the playoffs last year, many expected the Rollers to be key players again however Conlon believes an extra year under their belt has his side primed to push deeper into finals.

“There’s a better sense of

familiarity to the group this season,” he said.

“We’ve brought in better senior players like Anthony Petrie who was a Boomer not too long ago and our imports LJ (Rose) and Spencer (Parker) are excellent people and players in their own right. Everyone has bought into the system a lot earlier than last year and it all seems to be bubbling along nicely.”

Conlon also lauded the impact of Carrara Indoor Stadium on the Rollers’ early form after they were one of the many teams disrupted by the Commonwealth Games last year and forced to play out of The Southport School.

“I went back and checked the draw from late last year until now and we haven’t lost since we moved to Carrara,” Conlon.

“It’s our fortress and it’s our house.”

The Rollers women play tonight at Hibiscus Stadium at 6pm with the men at 8pm.
