A POPULAR Gold Coast nightclub has shut its doors indefinitely despite previously announcing events and booking artists for last night and tonight .

The shock closure of Platinum at Broadbeach comes amid rumours of a rental dispute, but the owners say the shutdown is due to sudden “renovations”.

A notice on the venue’s social media pages late Friday afternoon informed clients upcoming events would be cancelled.

“We are closed for renovations, we will be back soon. Watch this space,” it read.

Only days earlier the club was advertising events for last night and tonight.

DJ Paris Lawrence, under the same management as Havana Brown, was booked to appear last night along with resident DJs Night Rider and Little J.

Headliner Lawrence was flying up from Sydney.

The Bulletin was told by the artists they were notified on Wednesday the event would not be going ahead, with no reason given.

“I didn’t know anything about a renovation, they didn’t explain anything,” one artist said.

The announcement follows the resignation of long-term Platinum employee Michael Gray earlier this week. Mr Gray, who had worked at the club for seven years, announced he was leaving on Tuesday.

“Today is a very emotional day for me, I have handed in my resignation at Platinum nightclub Gold Coast!” Mr Gray posted online.

“It has been my home for the past 7 years, to all the DJs & people I have partied with over my time at Platinum I love you all.

“For now all I will say is I will see you all around very soon in the industry.”

Mr Gray also did not return requests for comment.

A number of nightlife sources told the Bulletin the management had been locked out of the Victoria Ave property earlier this week because of a rental dispute.

“I heard they had been having problems and couldn’t get in,” one source close to the club said.

“The new owners had only been there for about two months.”

The venue’s property manager would not “confirm or deny” when asked about the rumours by the Bulletin yesterday.

Platinum nightclub had undergone a major $500,000 refurbishment in 2017 soon after being taken over by Sydney mother and daughter team Astrid Wood and Rachel.

In May, the club was purchased by new owners TCJ & Associates. The Bulletin called the club landline and mobile as well as messaging its Facebook page, but received no response.
