Out to honour leader
BURLEIGH will be out to honour “one of our greatest warriors” in captain Luke Page with a victory in his 150th Intrust Super Cup match tomorrow.
The one-time St George Illawarra prop returns to the Bears line-up after being rested – following his representative round Test appearance for Papua New Guinea – for their 22-16 win over Ipswich last weekend.
Page will celebrate his milestone against former club Souths Logan in a 2pm kick-off at Pizzey Park.
“I have probably said it a thousand times but he has been a tremendous football player and captain of our club,” coach Jimmy Lenihan said of the 28-year-old.
“He is certainly a bloke who probably doesn’t say a lot on the football field but his actions speak loudly.
“It’s really important, being his 150th game and as a milestone game for him, that the players show their respect for him by playing in
the way that rewards one of our greatest warriors in coming away with a win.
“He has been fantastic on and off the field. I can’t say enough positives about him.”
Burleigh have won 10 of their past 11 matches to be in the midst of a battle with Wynnum Manly for a top two slot.
Tweed will also play in the 2pm Sunday timeslot, up at Kougari Oval against Wynnum. Tweed will be looking to snap a three-game losing skid and regather momentum as they build towards a breakthrough finals appearance.
They enter having delivered their best performance in weeks in a 24-22 loss in Townsville last Saturday.
