BARKING MAD FOR CHRISTMAS
IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas for the cavalier owners of the Gold Coast.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rescue is hosting its annual “Cavaliers Christmas in July” picnic at Miami this weekend.
The charity event, raising funds so the Queensland body can continue its work, will feature raffle prizes, a barbecue lunch and dog competitions, including fancy dress and best trick.
Secretary Jean Marashlian said the picnic was for celebrating the breed and raising funds so the organisation could pay medical bills and organise foster carers.
“The reason we do it in July is because increasingly we found December was too hot,” she said.
“A couple of years ago I thought why don’t we just move it, it’s better for cavaliers because they’re dogs that don’t seem to enjoy hot weather.”
The picnic is open to anyone, whether they have their own cavalier with them or not.
“One year we had a couple who had a cavalier but didn’t know about it, so they arrived at the park and couldn’t believe there were 60 cavaliers in all shapes and sizes,” Ms Marashlian said.
“If people would just like to come along and enjoy the day, we would love them to.”
The Cavaliers Christmas in July is on tomorrow in Pizzey Park, Miami, from 10am-2pm.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children over 10.
