House ‘hid $70k of meth’

A GOLD Coast man with a history of drug offences has told a court $70,000 worth of meth allegedly found by police in his Helensvale home was not his.

Jeremy Raymond Wade was charged with 12 offences including supplying and possessing dangerous drugs following a search at the Latrobe Ave property on Tuesday.

Police allege they uncovered more than 600g of methamphetamine and marijuana, different acids, weapons, ammunition and digital scales.

Wade, 41, will contest all of the charges except for one relating to possession of a laser pointer, the Southport Magistrates Court was told.

The prosecutor told the court: “He has the capacity of supplying a large quantity of drugs and firearms into the community. During the search, he stated he was the sole occupant of the place.”

Defence lawyer Skye O’Dwyer, of Allen and Searing Criminal Lawyers, said Wade denied knowledge of the drugs.

Police allege they found the amphetamines on a coffee table, on top of a fridge and inside a box. It was alleged more drugs were discovered over a fence.

The total amount of amphetamines seized was 634.6g, which included packaging, the court was told.

It was alleged Wade had glassware, powders and gamma amingobutyric for producing dangerous drugs.

Ms O’Dwyer said Wade ran a business reselling items from abandoned units and sheds. He kept the items for sale at this home.

“He stores materials in the lower level of the house which is where a number of the detailed items were located,” she told the court.

Magistrate John Costanzo said he had difficulty believing Wade would have missed seeing the drugs and utensils.

Ms O’Dwyer said Wade had been having problems with two individuals who had been breaking into his home.

“He repeatedly found them in the lower part of the house,” she said.

Mr Costanzo said Wade had previously been convicted for drug trafficking.

“Your criminal history involves drugs, more drugs and even more drugs,” he said.

Bail was denied bail. His case is in court again on July 25.
