It’s do or die for Rollers women in finals hunt

- ELIZA REILLY

THE Gold Coast Rollers must win tonight against the Ipswich Force if they are to be any chance of securing a historic home final in the Queensland Basketball League women’s competition.

It’s a simple but crucial equation with tonight’s match set to have a major say in the final make-up of the top four.

After not winning a single game two years ago, the Lady Rollers find themselves in the perfect position to inflict playoffs carnage, according to cocaptain Sarah Ambrose.

“If we win (tonight) it puts us in a really good position to get a home final which is something we’ve set our sights on and something that I am confident our group can achieve,” Ambrose said.

“We’ve just got to go out there and take care of business and ensure we give ourselves the best chance possible to achieve that.”

After tonight, the Rollers play two of the bottom three QBL sides in their final two matches of the year, meaning tonight’s match will be seasondefining.

“Any chance we get to play in front of our home crowd is something to be excited about,” Ambrose said.

“We’ve had a great week at practice this week so it will be a good test for us and a good opportunity to bounce back after our loss against Logan.”

Hopes are just as high among the Rollers men who sit second on the QBL ladder and have just about sewn up a home final.

“Being 12-3 has been a great season up until this point,” Rollers captain Christian Salecich said.

“We are keeping the ‘next game’ mentality to keep our focus for remaining games before playoffs start.”

The Lady Rollers tip off tonight at 6pm at Carrara Indoor Stadium followed by the men at 8pm.

The North Gold Coast Seahawks have a bye weekend.
