TON DEDICATED TO MUM

-

Q Scoring 158 for the Bulls at the Adelaide Oval in October 2014 must be something you look back on fondly? A

That was obviously pretty special. It was the first innings and Chadd Sayers had just taken a hat-trick. He got Joe Burns, Ben McDermott and Peter Forrest out. I was batting at five and we lost a wicket and I’d gone down to get changed and after I got padded up, I walked back up into the viewing box and had to go straight out to bat. That was pretty unbelievable. It was probably a good thing because obviously I was a bit nervous, I didn’t have a lot of time to think about it. Q

Out of all the innings you have played over time, was that the best you have batted? A

Probably not the best I’ve batted but just dealing with the situation of being three for not many in a Shield game with them on a bit of a high after just taking a hat-trick. It was very challenging but enjoyable at the same time. Q

You mentioned pre-interview that you dedicated that knock to your late mother, Karen? A

Mum passed away in 2012, so it was a pretty tough period there where I had just finished school and it was just before I turned 18. So yeah, that Shield hundred I scored, I dedicated it to her.

It was a really tough period and I probably underestimated how hard it would be, being at such a young age and sort of just trying to concentrate on cricket when I probably should have really then taken a step back and gone OK, cricket is not everything, you don’t have to just go down to the nets to hit balls because that’s what you were doing beforehand. You could take some time away from it just for yourself.
