Sharks out to end the Apollo pain

- ELIZA REILLY

AFTER a heartbreaking loss and a frustrating draw to Surfers Apollo so far this season, Palm Beach coach Brett Budwee is determined not to let another game go against them.

In Round 4, a bicycle kick in the final two minutes saw Surfers go level with the Sharks at 2-2. However in Round 11 the final kick of the game handed Apollo a 3-2 victory.

Today (4.30pm) in their third clash of the Gold Coast Premier League season, Budwee said the strategy was simple.

“We need to play until the final whistle,” he said.

“They beat us last time with the last kick of the game but we think we can match it with them. We’re very similar football teams.”

Giving Budwee confidence is his side’s form at home, with the Sharks always seeming to produce their best at Duncan McKenna Field.

“We haven’t lost at home since Round 2 so that’s something we can use as a bit of confidence,” he said. “If we can fire up front early then we’ll put ourselves in a good position.”

With just one game and one point between Palm Beach and the top four, Budwee said it was crucial to continue to get wins on the board.

“It’s in our hands,” he said. “We play Nerang and Coomera over the next few weeks who are also battling for that final spot so we’ve basically got to take the three points as often as we can.”

In today’s other Premier League fixtures, Burleigh play Tweed at Pizzey Park (3pm), and Nerang face Coomera at Glennon Park (7pm).

Mudgeeraba take on Broadbeach tomorrow at Sid Bigg Park (3pm).
