WEDDING EXPO TO REVEAL SHIFT AWAY FROM GLITZ
GOLD Coast couples planning their wedding day are shying away from the Glitter Strip’s over-the-top, loud, party nature.
Instead, would-be brides are turning to DIY, small or destination weddings.
Up to 2000 couples are expected to sample the latest trends at the Gold Coast Wedding Expo in Broadbeach tomorrow.
“The Gold Coast has a reputation for being ostentatious, but there’s actually a really large group of girls not doing that kind of wedding,” said designer Taya Roberts, the owner of HollyRose Couture.
“There's a large market for girls doing DIY weddings, small weddings, elopements.
“Destination weddings have really become a big thing too.”
Ms Roberts’s boutique will be one of almost 100 vendors from the Gold Coast and northern NSW at the expo.
Expo co-ordinator Susan Vink said the event was a chance for couples to celebrate their wedding “in their own authentic way”.
“With free entry, it’s an opportunity to come along with your wedding party, friends and family to have a fun day out, meet with exhibitors and gain heaps of ideas and inspiration,” she said.
“Our designer fashion parades are always a popular drawcard with stunning wedding gowns, suits, mother of the bride and bridesmaids fashion.”
The Gold Coast Wedding Expo is held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Broadbeach, tomorrow, 9am-3pm.
Entry is free.
