In-form Dolphins wary of Colts’ kick

- ELIZA REILLY @Eliza_Reilly2

BROADBEACH may have won seven straight games but Dolphins coach Lee Vernon knows not even their recent record is enough to discount a raring Coomera Colts side.

The Dolphins haven’t dropped any points since their Round 10 match against Nerang where they went down 5-1 and their current streak includes a 2-0 win over the side they play tonight at Viney Park.

Despite their impressive recent run, Vernon knows it will take Broadbeach’s best to halt a Colts side full of confidence fresh off their FFA Cup run and fighting for a topfour spot in the Gold Coast Premier League.

“It’s the hardest place in the league to go and get a result and it’s even harder this year with the form they are in,” he said of Coomera.

“We think it’s going to be a difficult game but we’ve won seven straight so we’ll take confidence in.

“We’ve got plenty to play for as well. We’re still fighting

for a top-two spot and any of the top six sides have shown they can beat each other on any given day.”

Vernon believes the secret to his side’s rapid improvement has been an increased efficiency in front of goal.

“We had an injuryravaged first half of the season but we’ve shown what we’re capable of when we get players on the park,” he said.

“We’ve shown that we can get the job done against any side. We’re creating a lot more opportunities whereas we weren’t at the start of the season.

“Now we’re getting into good positions more often and converting them.”

Broadbeach’s clash against Coomera tonight kickstarts a challenging run of three games in seven days, including clashes against current Gold Coast Premier League ladder leaders Burleigh and second-placed Surfers.

“We’ll take each game at a time,” Vernon said.

“You don’t know how you’re going to finish games and if you’re going to be hit by any injuries or suspensions but traditionally we haven’t done too well with a couple games in a short space of time.”
