AWLQ CELEBRATION ICING ON CAKE FOR DOGGIES’ BIG DAY OUT

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

THE Gold Coast’s biggest celebration of all things dog is back – and shows no signs of slowing down.

Now in its fourth year, Paws at the Park organiser Jenna Schroeder said she was still fielding calls every day from business owners two weeks out from the event.

While applications have closed – all 116 stalls were rapidly snapped up – Ms Schroeder said they had added two events to their line-up after asking for feedback last time.

“One of the extra events is an agility demonstration in the afternoon in the off-leash area,” she said.

“The other is information on what to feed your dog, a nutrition panel.”

A vet, animal nutritionist and spokespeople from Frontier Dog Food and Suburban Pets will help dog owners make the best decisions for their pet’s nutritional needs.

Paws at the Park will also be the official birthday bash for the Animal Welfare League of Queensland, who are celebrating 60 years of lifesaving work taking in and rehoming unwanted dogs and cats.

There will be an adoption parade for their long-term pups, with the pooches wearing accessories from local stall holders.

There will also be an activity tent where people can make their own dog toys.

“We never meant for Paws at the Park to be what it is, but it’s really cool how big it’s become,” Ms Schroeder said.

She said they were also bringing Santa Paws back to the Gold Coast in November and looking to expand the Paws at the Park to three times per year.

Earlier this year the event won three awards through Paws and Relax, taking home the people’s choice and community group awards.

Ms Schroeder also received an individual award under the people’s choice.

More than 10,000 are expected to attend the event at Mudgeeraba Showgrounds from 9am-2pm on August 24.
