Finals arriving early for Broadbeach

- TOM BOSWELL

BROADBEACH senior coach Beau Zorko says today’s game against Palm Beach Currumbin will be the perfect preparation for a finals campaign.

The two 2018 grand finalists will meet at Subaru Oval in Round 19 with the Lions already guaranteed the minor premiership and a home semifinal while Broadbeach still have a chance at securing second spot should results go their way.

Palm Beach Currumbin are coming off their first loss of the season but have welcomed the return of ruckman Jon Croad, captain Steve Thynne, Brock Askey, Trent Stubbs and Harrison Hulls.

Broadbeach have brought in Harrison Arnold, Darcy Irwin, Isaac Miller, Jimmy Rayner and Ben Hancock.

Zorko said his side was ready to fire after having the bye last weekend and believed a clash with the Lions would steel his side for finals.

“This week is terrific preparation for us going into what we hope is the last four weeks of the season,” Zorko said.

“Realistically, I couldn’t have asked for a better preparation.

“We are really looking forward to the challenge. The beauty of it is they are one of the better games to play this time of year to prepare and steel yourself for finals football.

“I know the players are looking forward to getting stuck into the last month.

“There is no doubting fact Palm Beach are still the team to beat. In essence I think they are hoping they can wake up tomorrow and be finals because they have little to play for right now.”

Meanwhile, Surfers will play Western Magpies at Sir Bruce Small Park today and are also eyeing second spot while Labrador need to beat Mt Gravatt at Dittmer Park and hope the Demons win if they are to finish in the top five and secure a finals berth.
