Crime scene hope for murder leads

GOLD Coast police say investigations into the brutal double murder of a Comanchero bikie and his business partner have not hit a dead end, but last night re-created a crime scene in a Burleigh park as they continued to appeal for public help.

Detective Acting Inspector Chris Tritton spoke to media at Martin Sheils Park, Burleigh Heads, where bikie and Monstr clothing founder Shane Ross, 36, was shot in the head and died on Friday, October 18.

His mate Cameron Martin, 47, was found dead in the mangled wreck of a white Mercedes

sedan, which struck a tree while travelling along Tallebudgera Creek Rd on the same day. Police later determined Martin had been shot in the chest.

The crash occurred three days before Mr Ross’s body was found by a friend on October 21.

“We don’t have a dead end,” Acting Insp Tritton said.

“We know this will be a lengthy investigation.

“At this point, we’re after as much ground information as we can (obtain) to assist us.

“We’re really relying on the public to assist us to best paint the picture of what occurred here on the night of October 18.”

Acting Insp Tritton said police had not heard from a mysterious third person who witnesses had reported staggering near the park, possibly injured.

“At this point, we don’t believe there was a third person involved but that could change with information. We don’t believe we have an outstanding victim,” he said.

Acting Insp Tritton was “really hopeful” of obtaining useful dashcam footage.

He said police were concerned video unwittingly captured by passing motorists could be automatically deleted as storage devices roll over and record fresh data.

“At this point, being two weeks on, we’re making that final appeal to trigger the memories of people as they travel through this location,” Act Insp Tritton said.

“As I say, because of the period of time that we’re behind, most investigations we get the best evidence in the first 24 to 48 hours, and we’ve lost that opportunity.”

The re-enactment was held at Martin Sheils Park about 7pm yesterday. A white 2015 Mercedes Benz C200 sedan, similar to the vehicle Martin crashed, was placed at the entrance to the park.

The operation included the questioning of passing motorists.
