Killer will face court Meninga on car charge

- ALEXANDRIA UTTING KATE KYRIACOU

CONVICTED murderer Bevan Meninga has been living at an address linked to the ex-prison guard he fathered a child with from behind bars, court documents relating to a new charge show.

Meninga will remain behind bars until at least next month after being charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle on Thursday.

The 48-year-old was remanded in custody by the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday and did not apply for bail after being arrested at a service station off the Pacific Highway at Loganholme for allegedly driving a stolen car.

Meninga, the brother of league great Mal, was released on parole in 2014 after serving 21 years’ jail for the shocking rape and murder of 19-year-old Sunshine Coast woman Cheree Richardson. Police say Meninga was driving a car that had been stolen from rental car company Hertz at Rocklea.

The car had been hired under another woman’s name one month earlier and was not returned to the lot in Brisbane last week, it is alleged.

Court documents show Meninga lists his residential address as a unit in Brendale, near Moreton Bay.

The same property has been linked to his ex-partner and former prison guard Tracy Pomeroy, who Meninga fathered a child with from behind bars while serving his sentence for murder.

Their daughter Sara Meninga has also been linked to the same property.

Cheree Richardson was found deceased in parkland at Alexandra Headland in 1991, with Meninga later claiming he’d been drunk at the time.

He’d beaten the woman to death with a tree branch.

This is the second time the 48-year-old has been arrested since the Parole Board granted him release from Palen Creek, where he served out the end of his sentence. Meninga will return to court for the unlawful use of a motor vehicle charge on December 5.
