SANTA PAWS A PET PROJECT ON COAST

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

CHRISTMAS is coming early for animal lovers as Australia’s biggest holiday pet market arrives in Nerang.

Santa Paws at the Park will be held at Country Paradise Parklands, the first time the event has been held outside of Brisbane.

The event will feature more than 100 stalls, talks and demos, pet competitions and a visit from “Santa Paws” himself, arriving in a sled dogdrawn sleigh.

Paws at the Park cofounder Lia Ferguson said there had been demand on the Coast for a Christmas event for some time.

“The response has been huge,” she said.

“There’s everything you can think of, from doggie ice cream to grooming services to toys, training.”

“People have been asking us to bring it to the Gold Coast so we’re really happy we were able to.”

Pet owners can bring their furry family members for professional Santa photos for a donation to AWLQ.

Lia will bring along her own “spoiled” cavoodle Piper to the market.

“She’s mostly nice but can be a little bit naughty at times,” she joked. “She’ll have to be on her best behaviour for Santa Paws.”

Santa Paws at the Park is on tomorrow from 9am-2pm. Entry is free.

On-site parking is available for a $5 donation to Animal Welfare League Queensland.
