Getting taste of over 50s living

-

RECREATIONAL areas in over-50s lifestyle communities are moving beyond the days of a bowling green, gym and pool.

The increasing numbers of Baby Boomers wishing to move into these estates are being catered for with a vast array of facilities.

Halcyon, which was founded in 2004, today hosts a free open day at its Pimpama community called Halcyon Greens to coincide with the opening of the second stage of its $15 million recreational area.

It encompasses an outdoor pool, covered lap pool, fitness centre, dance floor, beauty treatment rooms, bocce, bar and alfresco function area with an outdoor fire pit “inspired” by singer Celine Dion.

The increasing spend in these areas mirrors the growth in so-called over 50s lifestyle communities. In 2015 there were 450 homes in these estates for sale in southeast Queensland. That ballooned to 1200 last year.

Halcyon joint managing director Dr Bevan Geissmann said the open day is a chance to show prospective residents the benefits of an over 50s village.

“They’ll discover that Halcyon Greens is nothing like a retirement village,” he said.

“Rather, they will find a thriving over 50s community of homeowners transitioning from post-kids and work with the flexibility to sell when their living circumstances change, retain the capital gains and not be faced with exit fees.”

Halcyon bought 114ha of land, including the Gainsborough Greens Golf Course, from Mirvac in 2016. It later offloaded the golf course to GC Golf Management, which managed the course.
