ELITE CLUB TEES UP GREEN TRANSFORMATION

- ALISTER THOMSON

THE elite members-only The Pines golf course at Sanctuary Cove is teeing off with a major $1.8 million irrigation project for greener greens and improved playing conditions.

The Pines is one of two courses run by the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club with the other course, The Palms, open to the public.

Executive general manager Paul Sanders said the new state-of-the-art system would carry great benefits for The Pines golf course and the club.

Work is expected to take six months.

“The project is a key investment in our infrastructure, building on our commitment to be the best golf club for our members and to remain at the forefront as one of Australia’s finest private golf courses,” Mr Sanders said.

The new TORO Lynx Central Control System is said to bring more efficient watering through “precise” application rates.

“With accurate ET (evapotranspiration) readings we are able to water exactly where we want to, controlling the cost of water and resources and maximising course conditions and aesthetics.

“The Pines hosted its second Mercedes-Benz Gold Coast Sanctuary Cove Professional Shootout this year and the irrigation project will only enhance the course quality and playing conditions to improve this event in coming years.”

As the project proceeds hole by hole, the layout of The Pines golf course will change accordingly, using the club’s three full-length practice holes as substitute holes.

The Pines members will be able to visit neighbouring The Palms to use the driving range when the works take over.

Mr Sanders said the new irrigation system would add to the reputation of one of Australia’s most exclusive and challenging golf courses.
