INFAMOUS DEPICTION NOT REAL

- AMBER MACPHERSON

JESSIKA Power has little sympathy for reality TV stars putting the blame on everyone else but themselves for how they are portrayed on the small screen.

“A lot of these reality stars that were forced to say this or that, I’m really sorry, but you’ve got a moral compass and you’re an adult,” she said.

“Really, it’s on you.” The former Married At First Sight contestant, who was paired with Gold Coast car broker Dan Webb and moved to the city this year, is the subject of today’s Gold Coast Eye cover feature: when you’re a reality TV villain.

In light of a House Rules contestant successfully suing Channel 7 for “psychological injury” after being portrayed as the series’ token baddie, Power discusses the effect her reality TV depiction has had on her everyday life.

She’s one of three reality TV stars in the feature, including her now expartner Webb and controversial Bachelorette contestant Jess Glasgow.

“I had the most horrible edit in reality TV and I cop it daily – ‘I hope you kill yourself’, I get that every day (online) since the show’s aired,” Power said.

“But there’s got to be a line where it’s someone else’s fault and when it’s yours.

“They’re making a TV show at the end of the day so I’m going to say it’s fair.

“I learned a lot about myself, I learned how to grow up a little bit. My empathy level was so low before but I learned the whole world doesn’t revolve around you, there’s people that can be hurt by your actions.

“It taught me how to grow up a bit.”
