Locals sing for the rain in Tyalgum

- BOB ANTHONY

THE water situation at Tyalgum is getting so dire, some locals are looking to unusual methods of making it rain.

Well-known Tyalgum identity, Flutterbies’ Events manager Solar Chappel, said it wasn’t the first time the village had experienced prolonged drought but the level 4 water restrictions were making things a little tough.

“If anything, it brings the village together and many locals realise it is just something we have to deal with,” Mr Chappel said.

“This is a very resilient community and most of the people here are remaining positive.”

And doing his bit to keep spirits up and try to bring some rain, Mr Chappel took to the streets to do his best Gene Kelly rendition of Singing In The Rain in the hope of a change in the weather.

“I think in times like this, you need to smile and I would like to encourage everyone to be their best Gene Kelly ‘raindance’. Who knows what might happen?”

Despite the water situation, Tyalgum remains open for business with the Tyalgum Christmas Market on Saturday, November 30.

The markets will feature a selection of handmade stalls in the new Marketta Lane. More market stalls will be located on the lawns at Celestial Dew Guest House and there will also be live music on the Marketta stage. The markets will run 9am-3pm (DST).

Also on November 30 is the Garden of Light Book Launch High Tea.

It will include the official launch of the new Garden of Light photographic hardcover book, which is a project to raise funds for the Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary. Tickets to the high tea are $75. A bus departs from Flutterbies Cafe at 3pm (DST). Bookings available on (02) 6679 3221.

THIS IS A VERY RESILIENT COMMUNITY AND MOST OF THE PEOPLE HERE ARE REMAINING POSITIVE
