Spit shared pathway job on offer
ONE of the first major community projects as part of The Spit master plan is about to be built.
Gold Coast contractors are being invited to tender for construction of the Seaworld Drive shared pathway project in a move that will improve safety around the precinct.
State Development Minister Cameron Dick said the tender marked a new phase for the plan and was one of the opening steps to unlocking the job-creating potential of The Spit.
“The tender is for the construction of a new 3m wide shared pathway linking Muriel Henchmen precinct to Doug Jennings Park, accommodating both cyclists and pedestrians,” Mr Dick said.
“The project will also include work being carried out on a section of retaining walls along Seaworld Dve, to reduce erosion and protect existing below-ground electrical infrastructure.
“We expect this project will create around 10 construction jobs.
“The successful tenderer will need to be prequalified with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and will need to leverage local relationships and deliver local opportunities.”
While The Spit was one of the most popular locations for locals and tourists to visit on the Coast, the lack of a safe cycling and pedestrian route running along the complete length of Seaworld Dve had been identified by the community as a drawback.
“Once complete, the shared pathway and cycle way will provide a safe and scenic route to the top of The Spit for locals and tourists alike,” Mr Dick said.
