Aquis buying up the farm on Coast
“WHEN it comes to the Magic Millions you don’t want people coming into your house and pushing you around.”
Those are the words of Justin Fung, who runs Aquis Farm’s Australian racing and breeding operation.
The group began their foray into Australian racing in Canungra in recent years and have steadily increased their presence in the biggest events.
Aquis have connections to two Magic Millions 2YO Classic runners – Farnan, one of the favourites, and Rathlin – while they also had Way Beyond listed among the emergencies before the colt was scratched. The powerhouse stable won the $2 million race in 2018 with Sunlight and they only momentarily quenched their thirst to dominate the Magic Millions carnival, held at the track at which they are the naming rights sponsors.
“This is home turf for us so it means a lot,” Fung said.
“Our farm that we have been operating for quite some time is located near here, this is where we started it all so to have a presence like we do is a special thing for us. We love it all with the festivities, the sales and the race.
“Once you get a taste for it then it’s hard to shake that you do want to win it every year.
“That is the philosophy we have. We want to be able to defend our home turf along with other Queensland operators.”
Fung also said Aquis had put no ceiling on what they would spend at this year’s yearling sales. “I like to be as opportunistic as possible,” he said. “If my team brings me opportunities I’ll explore them.”
