START YOUR OWN TIPPING COMP

IF there is one man you follow the AFL tips of in 2020, make it Stephen Daniel.

The Southport NEAFL coach is one of the best in the business, taking out the

Bulletin’s tipping competition for the past two years along with the private one he does with family and friends.

Making his feats even more impressive is the fact Daniel, like all those in the Bulletin tipping panel, has to submit his tips before the teams are named each week due to publication deadlines.

So how does he do it? Daniel said there was no real secret to it, citing luck and a love of football as the reasons behind his success.

Having coached in AFL systems such as Carlton and the Suns also helps.

“I have been around football for a long time and half the time I’m guessing with the tips,” Daniel said.

“Back when I was around 24 you were allowed to bet on the footy and I used to go pretty good at it but in the AFL system you aren’t allowed to do that.

“It is harder to do it without seeing the teams and I usually finish with an extra six tips right in my private one because I change them slightly after the teams are announced. I suppose I have been a little lucky over the years.

“Like everyone out there who loves their football I just have a look at the side and how they have been playing.

“If you get around six right each week you are usually around the mark.” News Corp will launch

tips.com.au – Australia’s newest and biggest footy tipping game – today.

The NRL and AFL competition is an inclusive game that can be played by kids, families, in offices, pubs and clubs.

It comes with a cash prize of $50,000 for the winner of each code, plus a $1 million prize if you can achieve the streak – picking the winner and margin of a chosen marquee game each week in both AFL and NRL.
