KIRA AIMS TO BE QUEEN OF THE HILLS

-

GOLD Coast BMX star Kira Hill admits her skills will be tested when the national series returns to the Nerang track for the first time in two years.

About 400 riders from almost every state across the country will descend on the Gold Coast today.

“It’s great that the national series is back. It’s a fantastic track as it allows you to test and work on a variety of skills,” Hill said.

The national champion for the 15 years girls said a big goal of hers for this year was to back this up at the nationals in Launceston.

“Nationals is my main goal as I feel I can win again. Since the first national series round at Shepparton, I’ve been training really hard to make sure I’m as ready as possible,” Hill said.

“I wasn’t at my peak at Shepparton as it was the start of the year but last week at the Queensland shootout series I felt really good and comfortable on the bike.”

Last year was another big one for the former world champion, as she started competing in superclass events with the likes of Saya Sakakibara, Leanna Curtis and fellow Nerang rider Erin

Lockwood. BMX is not only big for Kira in the Hill family, with her older brother, Kyle competing on the men’s ledger.

However, Kyle represents Ashmore now, which has led to some sibling rivalry between the two.

“Yeah there is a little rivalry between us but it’s a minor issue,” Hill said.

“We try to help each other a lot, he’s much better at corners than me so I always ask him for tips. I think I’m better at my gate starts than him though.”

Practice starts today at 10.30am with racing at 1.30pm and finals from 4pm.
