Foes look to end each other’s perfect record

- TOM BOSWELL

THEY are two rivals who share a deep understanding of each other but only one will retain an unblemished record at the end of the weekend.

The Gold Coast Knights will welcome Peninsula Power to the Croatian Sports Centre tonight (6.30pm) in what is likely to be the most hotly contested National Premier Leagues Queensland game of the round.

Gold Coast won last year’s grand final and have started the 2020 season with three straight wins, while the Power are in a similar vein of form.

“We have got off to a good start so we need to keep that going,” Knights coach Grae Piddick said.

“It’s a big game (tonight). They have won their first three matches too and someone’s perfect record will go down.”

The two met four times last year, while the Knights pipped Peninsula 2-1 in a pre-season game earlier this year.

“Both teams are really attacking,” Piddick said. “Even though we have scored a lot of goals (14) this year already, it will probably boil down to which team defends the best.”

Fellow NPL Queensland team Gold Coast United face Magpies Crusaders United at Coplick Family Sports Park tonight. United will be hoping to build on the momentum from recent weeks that included a win over Eastern Suburbs and a draw against premiers and current league leaders Lions Football Club.

In the NPL Queensland women’s league, Gold Coast United, who have a draw and win so far, will play Souths United tomorrow at Coplick Family Sports Park.
