HAVE to say that medical staff doctors and nurses fighting this virus are doing a brilliant job so far with less than 1per cent fatality rate so far of those infected compared to between 5 and 10% in European countries. When this nightmare is over they need the same recognition like our Anzacs have for putting their lives on the line against the invisible enemy. If not a public holiday then free tickets to footy finals of their choice or concert tickets once everything is back to normal.
G’day! I believe our Kiwi brothers and sisters should have the same financial assistance as everybody else. Michael
To unnamed, (GCB, 27/03) please note that any foreign national residing in Australia who is not a citizen is NOT entitled to govt assistance. This applies to Kiwis like anyone else. So mate, if you are a Kiwi in this category, you are not a second class citizen, you are not a citizen at all.Become an Australian citizen and you will get govt help. You cannot have it both ways. Anzac brotherhood has nothing to do with this, it is way above monetary considerations. Marty
Totally agree with comment 27/3/20 ‘Light rail abandoned because of coronavirus’, that would be the best ever thing to come out of this virus – NO LIGHT RAIL. Shaz
Officially call off any Olympic bid. Use the money where it is needed most. Pretty obvious where that is now.
Can’t believe nobody is questioning why China is supposedly having no new cases of this virus. Western countries say we will face the worst of it in June and July. China is either lying or they have had a vaccine from the start. Peter
Stop the boats, Peter Dutton! send the cruise ships to Manus, Nauru or Christmas Island. That’s what they are there for. Cruise ships should all head to their flagged countries if they aren’t allowed to dock elsewhere. John H, Sydney
For some years now cruise ships have been a hotbed of diseases and viruses. Until now it’s been normal to dock at major city terminals. Thank God we have time to rethink Tom’s obsession. Concerned
How come flights from Singapore, Japan and Kuala Lumpur are still landing on a daily basis at the airport? Thought international travel was banned.
Oh my! Ken W. (Chatroom 27/3), you really do have a phobia against Annastacia Palaszczuk and the Qld Government, even though you
live in NSW! Mate, your political bias is on display! Diamond.
You have to love the logic of the Queensland Govt. You cannot go to prison because you might get the virus but you have to go out and vote and mix with others. G.B.
Eeeyew Qld! We in NSW don’t want YOUR “dreaded lurgy” germs either! Please NSW, close your borders too.
Kiwis under the special visa can’t vote nor get C/link assistance. “Taxation without representation is tyranny” so said the American Revolutionaries in their 1770s wars with Britain. Similarly the Suffragettes 100 years later. Time for Jacinta to tell ScoMo no more looking after Aussies in NZ until Australia changes its racist laws against hard-working Kiwis.
Stop spitting on ground you idiots – virus and TB. Can be transferred. In Melbourne years ago you were fined for spitting. From a relative of a TB nurse from England wake up
If Gary is so worried about our New Zealand residents not receiving financial help in this terrible time maybe he should study the law a bit. If they were naturalised they would receive help. Why live in a great country, take all it offers but not accept its name. It’s simple accept the benefits and the country as yours by being naturalised or stop whingeing. I am from Europe, naturalised as an Australian and fiercely proud of it but also fiercely proud of my country of birth. Oldie
How easy would it be to make the Tweed River the border as it always should have been. No more streets, houses, shops, schools cut in half by an imaginary line. Much easier to patrol. Sydney is a 1000km away and couldn’t care less about us. JB
Good on Coles and Woolworths announcing extra jobs. Close the self-serve checkouts and every store could employ another six people. Stevo
What a load of BS, my sister is flying to Sydney on Sunday. Already booked her ticket and is allowed to go.
Our ‘extended’ of 8 booked holiday accommodation for two weeks over the Easter vacation. Given the government directives to “holiday at home” and social distancing, our family, including one member over 80, concluded we should cancel our $2000+ booking and get a refund. Alas, the agent claims the owner does not give refunds. Huge waste. Name and shame coming. The property is at Bribie Island. Owner and agent beware. How mean!
Re coppers slowing down the M1 to check the border. I don’t know what people are complaining about as the M1 only moves about 5K an hour on any day. Palm beach resident xxxxx
