COVID-19 is giving employers insight into their employees. I’d be happy to have a job & willing to do extra to ensure the business survives & I have a future job. Who would want to be in the unemployment ranks now? Anyone who has done well for themselves, it’s because they went the extra mile. Just pitch in & stop complaining about doing more than $750 worth of work.

PK, re your “When is Council going to listen to the people” cry (GCB, 15/3) to end high-rise development … The fact is that for every person employed on a building site, there are seven others employed elsewhere. There are more people pro-development than against it … it’s the silent majority. Sensible, controlled development is one of the spines of the GC. Tosha

Pot calling kettle black? Mr Dutton’s government poured good money after bad into the motor vehicle industry in a bid to save jobs for SA and Vic yet criticises Palaszczuk Govt for its effort re Virgin to keep his home-state Queenslanders employed. Curly Bells

Oh WOW wot a shock – not! Cartwright has an exemption from having the flu shot. Geez, I didn’t see that coming – much! The NRL & their contracts R a farce. Jus Sayin

We are told regularly not to drink alcohol and go swimming. So why on earth does Tom Tate want to put bars on our beaches? Up go the drownings and fights and assaults. Crazy. Jj

I, originally, was against Bryce Cartwright being allowed to play in the NRL because of his stance against vaccination. But on reflection, this is not a vaccine for measles, mumps etc. This is a flu shot. I may be wrong, but flu shots are pretty much a personal choice. I choose not to. As I get older I may change my mind. But for all intents and purposes a flu shot should not stop him from playing. I firmly believe that all vaccinations, bar the flu, should be mandatory – no jab – no nothing. HarryB.

Is it just me or anyone else think the Cartwright thing is a bit on the nose? No previous mention of an adverse reaction to the flu jab, just that he was an anti-vaxxer. Job and money on the line and change of story. Reggie

Five phone calls. Two site visits to CentreLink. Nobody knows how to link JobSeeker payment to Aged pension to discuss income impact for sole trader. That’s it then. Tried my best to be compliant.

Graham Turner, the boss of Flight Centre wants a resumption of international flights. It’s a fact that this virus has had a crippling effect on his business but that’s no excuse to open the floodgates which could end in disaster. The UK still lets in foreign travellers and just look at their sad position. Dr J

If both WA and SA footy teams from the AFL base themselves here can we use it to maximum advantage when the season starts next month. Broadcasters should not only send games live overseas but to highlight our city’s tourist attractions as well as winter climate. That will aid our economic recovery in Qld as soon as national then international travel resumes. Don’t forget America’s MLB is still suspended until at least July and their NFL season doesn’t start until September. A win -win for both footy codes here.

Have to agree with NRL cutting back on referees. GC local league insist on clubs paying for interchange refs. Clubs have to have gate charges to cover costs and of course video costs.

Good on our Premier for reversing the privatisation madness of the past 30 years. If governments still owned banks, airlines, telecommunications companies and other businesses we would be in a far better position financially and socially. She’s definitely got my vote! Mark, Tugun

Instead of enduring ads and A

Current Affair promos at 7.27pm switch over to ABC ME (Ch 23) and watch Shaun

the Sheep for 5 minutes. Much more entertaining!

Council waste dumping station at Helensvale fails covid-safe. Watched 6 vehicles dumping waste all using the same broom and shovel provided by the council without being cleaned or sanitised by anyone although 3 council workers watching from a distance.

We should be going the glamour path of food and tourism like Dubai, but our Premier once again is going coal and gas. Bring on the election!

Fair dinkum this Free to Air TV is on the nose, I watch

Eddie’s Millionaire Hot Seat, sick of the commercials. Timed it last night, 6 minutes 17 seconds of quiz time then 3 minutes and 33 seconds of commercials, enough time to have a shower. Perko

If the Qld treasurer wants to go to war over Virgin he will need a war chest. Where does it come from?

While a job loss number around half a million and a one per cent leap in unemployment might seem terrible most of the lost jobs must be part time jobs equivalent to about one third the weekly hours of a full-time job. After all, if they were actually full-time jobs lost Australia would have about 50 million full-time jobs (0.5 X 100) in total and we don’t. While this isn’t the best, especially if you work PT, the figures are really not that bad.
