BUY NEW GEAR
I am not sure about you, but when it’s freezing outside, blowing a gale and raining horizontally, I struggle to get my gear on and out the door.
Even the most motivated of us can find it a challenge.
One thing is for sure though, it’s worth finding that motivation for the feeling you get when you’ve finished.
Here’s some advice to help you get up and get moving.
WORKOUT WITH A FRIEND
Whether it’s a run outside, a session at the gym or a HIIT workout in your lounge, lock it in with a friend.
You’re less likely to pike if you’ve got someone else to be held accountable to.
You don’t want to let down your mate.
TRY SOMETHING NEW
These days you can pretty much find anything online so why not try a new workout?
YouTube is full of them.
Find something you can do in the comfort of your lounge so you don’t have to battle the elements, but you’ll still get a sweat on.
Most people find a little extra motivation when they’ve got something new to wear.
Treat yourself to some new gear that makes you feel good so you’re all set to go.
KEEP A JOURNAL
Remembering how you felt during and after a session is a great way to motivate you to do it again.
Yes, it might have been challenging at the time, but the feelings of satisfaction, pride and exhilaration should be captured.
Write it down so you can go back and remind yourself how awesome it was. There are also some great apps to help you track your wins.
SET YOURSELF A GOAL
Find a race or event to work towards in the spring.
Knowing you need to be race ready will be a sure way to get you out the door for every session.
THINK OF THE DOLLARS
You’ve paid for the classes or membership, so go.
Don’t let a bit of cold weather stop you from making the most of the hardearned dollars you’ve spent.
SET MINI GOALS AND CELEBRATE SMALL WINS
Set yourself some smaller steps (with rewards) to help you get through to your ultimate goal.
Reward yourself when you reach them.
DON’T HIT SNOOZE
OK, this one is easier said than done, but who doesn’t love the feeling of getting a workout done early so you don’t have it hanging over you for the rest of the day?
When the alarm goes off, just get up, put on your gear and get going.
Training throughout winter is challenging, both mentally and physically.
You can’t avoid that, but how you tackle each session comes down to how you want to feel.
If you want to feel your best, then get out of bed and get out there. You won’t regret it.
