TROUBLED former world champion boxer Michael Katsidis has been granted bail for allegedly possessing stolen medical equipment despite a magistrate saying he did not “deserve” it.

Katsidis appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday on multiple charges including possessing stolen property and possessing dangerous drugs.

Police allege Katsidis and

Jason Peter Semyraha were seen running into a Mermaid Waters business just before 4am on Thursday.

Police stopped the pair and searched the car Katsidis was allegedly driving.

The court was told police found a $25,000 evaporator, which had the name of a nearby medical centre stamped on it.

An evaporator is used to separate different components from drugs.

It is alleged a small amount of cannabis was also in the car.

Defence barrister Wayne Tolton said Katsidis borrowed the car from a friend.

“There is no direct evidence that Mr Katsidis had knowledge of any of these items,” he said.

“There is nothing that would connect him to the items.”

Mr Tolton said Katsidis was on Supreme Court bail for althat legedly possessing a amount of drugs.

He said Katsidis contested small and the case was “extremely weak” as the only thing which linked him to the drug was fingerprints on several plastic bags.

As well as being on bail, Katsidis was also on probation and parole for other drugrelated matters, the court was told.

To date he had been complying with his probation and parole conditions but did “struggle in relapses in times of emotional distress”, the court was told.

Magistrate Pamela Dowse granted Katsidis bail.

“I will grant him bail but I don’t know if he deserves it if he is still doing drugs,” she said.

His bail conditions included that he reside at his Helensvale address and that he comply with requirements with probation and parole.

Katsidis will return to court on June 9.

Semyraha was granted bail and will return to court on June 25.
