Bad draws hold Plutocrat back

- NATHAN EXELBY MARK OBERHARDT

TRAINER Chris Anderson believes difficult barriers have stopped Plutocrat from being rated among the best two-yearolds in the Queensland.

Plutocrat today lines up in the Dalrello Stakes (1200) at Eagle Farm where her run of bad draws continued when she drew the outside gate.

The filly started from gate 11 and ran second in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes at her latest run.

Anderson (pictured) said Plutocrat would have won the Carter with a decent barrier.

“The fact she has won a race and been stakes-placed is a credit to her ability,” he said. “We have had to ride her back in the field. I would love to see her be able to get up on the pace.”

Anderson said because Plutocrat was raced but Glenlogan Park Stud it was important she got black-type.

“There aren’t a lot of blacktype races left for fillies this season so we have to press on.”

Today’s Listed race is usually a guide to the future with recent winners Sir Moments, Mishani Hustler, Absalon and Crack Me Up going on to be successful in stakes races as older horses.

STAKES-WINNING mares Shalwa and Krone will both be sought-after commodities at next month’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale but trainer Tony Gollan still has unfinished business on the racetrack for the pair.

The mares, who started their careers in Victoria, will run in today’s Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes at Eagle Farm for Gollan.

Shalwa has won six races for the stable, highlighted by her first black-type win in the Helen Coughlan Stakes last month.

Krone has had just two runs for Gollan and showed she was back in form with a slashing second to Shalwa last time.

While the pair are both set to be sold next month, Gollan still has more options after today, with the Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich their potential swan song.

The premier trainer was sure both would run well today and said punters shouldn’t be put off by wide barriers.

While Gollan (pictured) is impressed with both mares, he rates Outback Barbie his best chance of winning the Dane Ripper Stakes.
