WHEN CURT TONY FINALLY SEES HUMOUR IN CHOOK CALL

-

THIS week’s memory is Tony Curtis, taken at a press call at Conrad Jupiters in 1994. Unfortunately I can’t recall the name of the lady in the photo with him. He was in Australia promoting his autobiography and was on a speaking tour to promote the book. After the press conference we were asked by then media director Barbara Harper to take photos with some special people. He was fine at first but one of us has a habit of calling out “YOO HOO’’ when a photo is taken. After a couple of photos he got upset and said he didn’t want to be treated like a chook. The guilty party promised not to do it again but as you can see by his face he wasn’t happy. Next picture, call it nerves, it happened again. Tony got really angry, profuse apologies were extended and he then realised no harm was meant, laughed at the absurdity of it all and was fine after that.

ONE thing we know now about Daniel Mallari – he can really keep a secret.

Daniel, Joel Gonzales and Lloyd Saniel make up local group The Lions Den and on Sunday night they took part in a blind audition for The Voice.

“We were put forward by some of our supporters and were a bit hesitant but decided to simply go with it and see where the journey took us,” said Daniel.

“The biggest challenge was keeping it a secret for nine months while we went back and forth to Sydney.

“We are all so glad we did because the team from The Voice really looked after us.

The song The Lion Sleeps Tonight was chosen for us because of our stage name. Kelly Rowland commented that she thought nerves got to us a bit but it was due to jumping around while singing which made our voices a little shaky.

“Boy George said he would love to hire us for a party so I’ll be keeping my phone handy waiting for the call. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I’m so glad we did it.”
