Taking offence is name of the game in our world of ’sheeple’

- GAEL BEALE, GOLD COAST

IF so many people are so offended by the product Coon cheese, named after the family of the founder, that they want the product renamed then let’s go “the whole hog”.

Sorry, just in case I offend someone out there or their animals, then let’s go “the whole even-toed ungulate family suidae” and rename anything else which someone somewhere may find the time to be offended by.

Let’s not stop at Coon cheese, let’s also change all of the other product names someone may find offensive or think they or someone else is being offended by, because it’s not just those referred to as being black or coloured – it must also relate to those who find offence in something because they are white.

Let’s change long blacks, short flat whites, brown ale, black olives, green olives, white, black, green, pink, silver or any other coloured cars, the same goes for all the surnames which someone may find offensive, no brown or white bread, socks, undies, shoes, dresses, no colour denoted for carpets, rugs, curtains, forget Red Nose Day and the Red Shield Appeal, also don’t mention The Black Dog or Beyond Blue, no more hash browns, black pudding, grey army.

The list is endless and it would seem in today’s world, there’s always someone somewhere who must have to really sit back and think hard about something they can find offensive to them or they decide it’s offensive on someone else’s behalf.

We are surrounded by “sheeple” who are determined to get on the bandwagon of anything their tiny little minds need to search so hard for. Instead of doing something about things which are really important to everyone as a whole, they latch on to something of no real consequence just to stick their noses in and try to feel important.

These are also unfortunately the same people who think the world and everyone owes them something for nothing, and constantly have their hands out reaching and grabbing. Over the years we’ve seen children’s story books, TV programs and toys all being “forbidden” because someone somewhere decided they were offensive and yet, for the children reading and being read to, watching and hearing these stories, they are just that – stories.

Children are not “warped”, they don’t think Noddy was a homosexual or that Thomas the Tank Engine is sexist, or that one of the Teletubbies was being portrayed as a homosexual or any of the other things that these “warped” people find so offensive.

Children are just that – children. They are innocent and don’t see things through the “warped minds” of those who think it is their God-given right to blacken, darken (sorry if I offended someone) everything and who want to change history.

History is just that – history. It tells a story of times past from which we should learn, not obliterate and pretend it didn’t happen. I believe Australian history is not even taught in schools nowadays which I have to say truly offends me because how are children to learn how their country was formed if not through the history of those before them.

What I found as utterly offensive and indefensible was that the weekend before last, around 100,000 broke all the coronavirus laws to protest about the death of George Floyd while they merrily decided that “Black Lives Matter”, but apparently the lives of other Australians of all colours didn’t matter one iota and undid months of hard work, billions of dollars in supplements, JobKeeper schemes etc to help keep this country and people’s businesses and lives afloat.

They also had their hands out for their fair share, all of which sent Australia into a recession, while they took part in an “illegal” protest without any care for anyone but themselves and the part they could play in just causing mayhem.
