Night out at the pub sparks fears another cluster may be forming in NSW

- ANGIRA BHARADWAJ

NEW coronavirus cases from a southwest Sydney pub have authorities fearing that a fresh local cluster may have broken out in NSW.

Two new cases could have stemmed from a busy night at the Crossroads Hotel in Casula, after a Liverpool woman aged 30 and a man, 50, tested positive after they were both at the pub on Saturday.

Those cases come as a Victorian man tested positive after crossing the border in his caravan. He came forward after receiving his positive COVID-19 test result, however, details of his movements have not yet been released.

Meanwhile, the Crossroads Hotel has been shut down and a pop-up clinic has been set up in the parking lot as NSW Health works with the venue to trace other patrons who were at the pub on July 4.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said he did not know how many people were at the pub on the night when the two people attended.

More than 1,007,660 tests have been conducted in NSW and more than 18,500 were done in the past 24 hours.

The Victorian man infected with COVID-19 jumped the border into NSW in his caravan just as NSW reached the milestone of one million COVID-19 tests.

There are currently 77 people being treated for the virus by NSW Health and one person is in intensive care but does not require a ventilator.

Health authorities did not provide further details about who was at fault this week when a woman, 39, escaped hotel quarantine in Sydney.
