FANGS FOR THE COVID-SAFE HALLOWEEN MEMORIES
HALLOWEEN is happening on the Gold Coast but beware – COVID-19 restrictions are still on everyone’s mind.
Queensland Health is encouraging children to get dressed up and go trick-ortreating but to have a COVIDsafe celebration.
“We’d like to remind all monsters, ghouls and ghosties out there to stay up to date with the health directions that are in place on October 31,” a Queensland Health spokesperson said.
“This means staying physically distanced from other groups of ghouls, and wash your hands, claws, tentacles and so on frequently and well.”
The Queensland Health spokesperson urged parents to make sure all treats were wrapped to minimise contact.
“Parents and carers should consider things like individually packaging treats for trick-or-treaters, washing hands well before preparing treats and in between handing them out, or using hand sanitiser,” the spokesperson said.
“Don’t forget, if you’re feeling sick, stay at home in your haunted house until you are better.”
Currumbin Sanctuary general manager Michael Kelly said the park had adapted to the COVID changes to create its Festevil at the Fangtuary
“It became very clear to us a couple of months ago that this year it has to be different, from a COVID-safe perspective,” Mr Kelly said.
“We’re giving kids a show bag that has a number of novelties and lollies prepacked in the bag, which reduces contact.”
The sanctuary will have its creepiest critters out and about for a one-way walking experience.
Mudgeeraba Showgrounds is also hosting a familyfriendly celebration on Saturday from 2pm-8pm.
The fun includes prizes for best costume, a lolly hunt, carnival rides and food stalls.
Entry is a gold-coin donation.
Gold Coast City Council would not comment on whether it was in favour of Halloween going ahead, with a spokesperson saying: “The “Queensland Police Service and Queensland Health are the lead on this.”
