FORBES LISTING PROVES HAPPY TEAM AT WYNDHAM
WYNDHAM employees have known for years they work for one of the world’s best employers. And now they have certifiable proof.
Wyndham Destinations, which has its Asia Pacific arm based in Bundall on the Gold Coast, has made the annual Forbes Magazine list of the world’s best employers.
The list was compiled following a survey of 150,000 employees, including Wyndham workers, in nearly 60 countries.
Participants were asked to rate their satisfaction with their employers’ response to COVID-19, as well as score their employer in other areas such as social responsibility, gender equality, and talent development.
Wyndham’s managing director of international operations Barry Robinson said the recognition was particularly pleasing given the huge challenges posed by COVID-19.
The Bundall workforce has been cut by over a third to around 400 employees down from 600.
“Our workforce is not the same size as it was but … we have been complimented by our workforce on the way we have handled the restructuring,” Mr Robinson said.
“That is pleasing in itself. There is no good way to restructure. A lot of good people are out of employment.”
Mr Robinson said the company provided staff who had been stood down free meals prior to JobKeeper being rolled out.
In addition, the company offers a host of other benefits including flexible work arrangements, yoga sessions, walking meetings and mental health awareness and resilience courses.
He said there were also some key lessons from having the majority of staff working from home.
“Zoom can be painful because you can be on Zoom calls all day …(but) what it has provided is a platform for faster more open and direct communication across the board,” he said.
Mr Robinson said the company had temporarily closed its Wyndham Corporate Centre office for renovations expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
He said this would create a more modern open plan office.
