Wright fit for Dons

Suns talk with Bombers about Two Metre Peter

- JOSH BARNES

GOLD Coast is likely to send unwanted big man Peter Wright to Essendon for future picks and is open to trading its pick five in this year’s AFL draft for the right deal.

Suns list manager Craig Cameron also removed his club from the conversation over Collingwood midfielder Adam Treloar, telling Trade Radio the Magpie “doesn’t have any interest in coming here”.

Cameron said the Bombers were the only club they were talking to about 24-year-old Wright, who didn’t play an AFL game in 2020 after 66 in his first five seasons.

“We’re really just talking to Essendon, they’ve made the play on that,” Cameron said. “Conversations with them are going pretty well.”

Cameron said Gold Coast would likely take its current No.5 to the draft but was more interested in selections in 2021.

“We’d be happy to (take pick 5 to the draft) but we’d also be happy to try to move further up the draft as well,” he said.

“I don’t think there’s a player that we’d use it on.”

Western Bulldogs have confirmed an interest in Brisbane’s Stefan Martin.

“From our needs perspective, we’ve talked about adding another ruckman which we’re looking to do through this period,” Power told AFL Trade Radio.

“We’ve got some interest in Stef. Stef’s been a very, very good player for a long period of time.”

“We’ve gone on record to say we need some more support and options in that position.”

TOM Hawkins is set to join Geelong’s exclusive 300 game club after he locked in a two-year extension.

Off the back of a stunning 2020 campaign in which he won his first Coleman Medal and claimed a third All-Australian blazer, Hawkins has likely made himself a Cat for life.

The extension mean Hawkins will play past his 34th birthday and into his 16th season.

Sitting on 277 games, the durable forward is looking to join Sam Newman, Ian Nankervis, Corey Enright, Jimmy Bartel and Joel Selwood in the Cats 300 game club.
